Portrait of Faye, pianist and artist in Davenport, Iowa
About the Artist

Classically trained. Anything but conventional.

Trained for recitals, seasoned in front of live crowds.

Faye is a pianist, composer, and visual artist based in Davenport, Iowa, with more than 100 live performances across the Quad Cities and a repertoire that runs from Bach to Billie Eilish.

The Story

Trained for the concert hall, built for the room in front of her

It started before she could talk. That is her in the photo, barely able to stand, pulling herself up to reach the keys. Nobody made her do it. She just kept climbing back up.

Faye trained classically under pianist Sharon Jensen, the kind of teacher who does not let a phrase slide by unfinished. That training earned her multiple AAA ratings, the highest mark awarded, at adjudicated piano competitions, and it shows in the details: the touch, the dynamics, the way a familiar piece suddenly sounds like it was written for the moment it is played in.

Then she took that training out of the practice room. Over 100 live performances later, Faye has played weddings, dinner parties, bars, festivals, church services, and senior living communities across the Quad Cities. She has accompanied choirs, backed other performers, and volunteered more than 150 hours teaching piano to new students. Reading a room is not a skill they grade at competitions, but it might be the one she uses most.

Faye is also a composer with 24 original instrumentals, from the delicate Spring Rain in B Major to the moody Dance of the Skeletons, and a practicing visual artist. That crossover shows up in her sets: contrast, pacing, and a point of view, built for the room in front of her instead of the same list everywhere.

Music and visual art, one practice

When she is not on stage, Faye sculpts, draws, and posts her visual work under the name Chaotic Art Dump. It is the same instinct in a different material: what to add, what to leave out, and when to stop.
